There are high stakes in sexual harassment inquiry proceedings, and the process can be gruelling for everyone involved. Not only victims of sexual harassment, but also the person named in the complaint, the witnesses and even members of the Internal Committee can experience poor mental health at such time. The law provides that, in case of proven sexual harassment, compensation may be awarded to the victim to cover costs of medical expenses.
Interim reliefs and recommended actions can include counselling and rehabilitation. We should be talking about safe spaces and healthy boundaries in our IC review meetings. We have a long way to go in looking after our own and other stakeholders’ mental health during IC proceedings, but we can start with a conversation; a dialogue.
